Inside or Outside: Flexible Environments Theory into Practice (Single Session) Designed for
Position Type: All educators
Level: Intermediate

Inner Melbourne | QA3 Date: Mon 03 Jul Registrations close: Mon 26 Jun
(Previously "Od Course Title")

‘Indoor and outdoor environments offer significantly different yet complementary experiences and should be given equal focus and attention’ (ACECQA 2013, p.93).

Moving beyond the notion that children ‘let off steam’ in the outdoor environment, it is an essential part of any early childhood curriculum. ACECQA’s Guide to the National Quality Standard stipulates that wherever possible, children need opportunities to be outdoors as much as indoors. This can be achieved with well designed, integrated indoor and outdoor environments that are available at the same time (ACECQA 2013, pp.93-94).

This session will explore the challenges and possibilities of creating flexible indoor and outdoor environments that are characterised by quiet and active zones and a balance of fixed and moveable equipment that caters for individual, small-group and whole-group experiences.
